Missing Concert Fan’s Remains Confirmed

Posted on Wednesday January 27, 2010 at 01:01 PM 6 |

Virginia State Police have confirmed that human remains discovered in a remote farm field are those of a college student who vanished last fall while attending a Metallica concert.

Morgan Harrington, a 20-year-old student at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, was at Metallica’s concert in Charlottesville at the John Paul Jones Arena Saturday, Oct. 17.

According to police, Harrington left the concert before Metallica began performing to use the restroom, but somehow ended up outside the building and couldn’t get back in. Her roommate told The Roanoke Times that Harrington called her friends shortly after leaving, saying she would not return.

Since then, police have asked Metallica fans to check photos and videos of the night to see if the missing college junior might have been photographed. A passerby found her cell phone and purse in a parking lot near the arena, but no solid leads ever turned up.

Now investigators say skeletal remains discovered in a farm field about 10 miles from the venue earlier this week are Harrington’s, and that today’s positive identification is based on dental records supplied by the family.

It is very sad. I was at that concert with my son and live only 15 mins from this farm so it's been big news since it happened. We all prayed for a different outcome but no one was surprised. Just surprised at how close she ended up from the venue. A farmer feeding his cows found her body about a mile off the road on his 700+ acres.

Metallica did know and had added $50,000.00 to the reward of $100,000.00. They also had it on their home page.

Now we all hope and pray there's enough DNA to find who did this.

So sad. There are far too many of these type of sad endings.  We need to lock these criminals up and throw away the key.

Really sad this all has been.I bet Metallica keep their money in the pot to help the family catch the killer. We can assume she was murdered. Then the murderer should be killed in a most painful way.

I have just learned that the remains of the missing student from Virginia have been found.  I am so sorry and would like to extend my deepest sympathy to her family and friends.  May she rest in heaven now and may her killer get what he deserves.  She was a beautiful girl.

Just wanted to stop by & say how sorry I am also for your loss to the parents if they see this.  I hope they find this person & give them the death penalty.  There's no excuse for this kind of thing, especially since she was only 20.  Prayers go out to the family & friends.
